Quantification and classification in education: What is at stake?
2021
Histories of statistics and quantification have demonstrated that systems of statistical knowledge participate in the construction of the objects that are measured. However, the pace, purpose, and scope of quantification in state bureaucracy have expanded greatly over the past decades, fuelled by (neoliberal) societal trends that have given the social phenomenon of quantification a central place in political discussions and in the public sphere. This is particularly the case in the field of education. In this article, we ask what is at stake in state bureaucracy, professional practice, and individual pupils as quantification increasingly permeates the education field. We call for a theoret…
Kva med oss? : hvordan se annerledes ut, og vokse opp i et hovedsakelig etnisk norsk miljø?
2013
Masteroppgave i psykisk helsearbeid ME504 Universitetet i Agder 2013 The theme of this study is how it feels to look different, and grow up in an anvironment existing mainly of ethnic Norwegians. The basis are stories about this written by internationally adopted people over 18 years of age. The task is a qualitative study, which uses a narrative approach in form of a specialty controlled life history. The purpouse of the study is to look at the story of each informant. The background of the study is 12 stories, and these are given by the foundation “Adopsjonsforum”. It`s the informants themselves who have created the different themes. In the analysis I have used Malterud (2008) as a source…
The age and well-being “paradox”: a longitudinal and multidimensional reconsideration
2022
This paper explores qualifcations to the much-discussed paradox that although aging is associated with multiple physical and social losses, subjective well-being (SWB) is stable or increasing in later life. We explore age-related changes in cognitive, afective, and eudaimonic dimensions in three waves of data spanning up to 15 years from the Norwegian NorLAG study (N=4,944, age 40−95). We employ fxed-efect models to examine the nature and predictors of aging efects on SWB. Results indicate a general pattern of stability well into older age, but negative changes in advanced age across well-being measures. Declines in SWB are less pronounced and with a later onset for the cognitive compared w…
The effects of a subvention scheme for e-bikes on mode share and active mobility
2022
Hanne Beate Sundfør, Aslak Fyhri, The effects of a subvention scheme for e-bikes on mode share and active mobility, Journal of Transport & Health, Volume 26, 2022, 101403, ISSN 2214-1405, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jth.2022.101403 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2214140522000755) Introduction Previous studies show substantial mode share effects from e-bikes. E-bike owners cycle more and drive less car than they would without access to an e-bike. Support schemes for e-bikes exist in a number of countries, but knowledge about the effect of subsidies on active transport is limited. The aim of this study is to assess the mode change and active mobility effects of a subvention…
Effects of a brief pre‑admission telephone reminder on no‑show and dropout rates in substance use disorder treatment: a quasi‑experimental study
2022
Abstract Background Appointment no-show and early dropout from treatment represent major challenges in outpatient substance use disorder treatment, adversely affecting clinical outcomes and health care productivity. In this quasi-experimental study, we examined how a brief reminder intervention for new patients before their first appointment affected treatment participation and retention. No-shows (not attending any sessions) and dropouts (discontinuation of initiated treatment because of three consecutively missed appointments) were compared between a period with pre-admission telephone calls (intervention) and a period without such reminders (non-intervention). Methods Participants were a…
Nordic penal exceptionalism: A comparative, empirical analysis
2022
Abstract Based on a survey administered in 13 prisons in England & Wales and Norway, as part of a research programme with explicitly comparative aims, this article seeks to address both the relative and absolute dimensions of the Nordic penal exceptionalism thesis. It outlines the consistently more positive results in Norway compared to England & Wales, explaining them primarily with reference to the former’s much higher quality and use of open prisons. At the same time, it emphasizes that, even in an unusually humane prison system, prisoners report considerable pain and frustration. The article also makes the case that comparative analysis should strive to be systematic, but that s…
Hvor og hvordan vil eldre bo? : Casestudie av Hovedgårdstunet og Bystranda park
2017
The Role of Education and Gender in Cultural Intelligence
2017
Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2017 The aim of this thesis is to identify how education and gender influences an individual’s level of cultural intelligence. This is a relatively young field that is growing, as the world is getting smaller. Initially, the theory on the subject is presented through different perspectives on cultural intelligence and previous studies connecting the relationship between cultural intelligence and both antecedents and outcomes. By using analysis of variance, we have researched and analyzed the relationship between gender, education and other factors that might have an explanatory power on the level of cultural intelligence. W…
Predictors of Cultural Intelligence : What are the predictors of Cultural Intelligence and how do they range in importance?
2021
Master's thesis in Business administration (BE501) Knowledge about which factors, like personality traits, experiences and demography, and how these relate to cultural intelligence (CQ) is important in today’s business world as we see trends of increasing globalization and cross-border communication and collaboration. Naturally, business…
Norske allmennaksjeselskapers tilfredshet og lojalitet til deres revisjonspartner
2021
Master's thesis in Accounting and auditing (BE508) Tilfredshet i revisjonsbransjen har blitt nøye studert.
